Malayer L2592
Description
This early 20th century Persian Malayer has that quiet, timeworn beauty that only comes with age. The field is washed into a soft, powdery blue, layered with delicate, allover florals and subtle vine work that feels almost like it’s been sketched in.
Woven in wool on a cotton foundation, the pile is low and smooth with a soft, broken-in hand—giving it that gently muted, almost textile-like finish Malayer rugs are known for. The border, in faded rose and warm neutrals, frames the piece with just enough contrast while keeping the overall palette calm and tonal.
Malayer rugs are often appreciated for their balance between structure and spontaneity—more refined than village weavings, but still carrying a certain looseness in drawing that makes each piece feel unique. This one leans especially soft and atmospheric, with a palette that’s become beautifully subdued over time.
